My apartment is leaking and so is my life.

January 23, 2017

I live in a lovely loft apartment with open beam ceilings; it’s the sweetest space. Feels like a treehouse.

For the past ten days, I’ve had water leaking into my home in a minimum of two, and often up to five places all at the same time-- right into my main living space. A big refurbishing project last summer left some roof/deck joints on an upper floor with inadequate flashing. With all the snow we’ve been getting here in Bend (at least 50” since mid-December) I’m stuck with this problem until we totally thaw out, and probably for a while after that.

It’s really annoying…the leaks move around and they’ve damaged antique furniture and a bunch of towels. I had dinner guests last Thursday and the leaks messed with my cozy atmosphere.

Reminds me of energy leaks. Do you have any?

Energy will leak until it’s directed properly, then it simply flows.

If you don’t feel consistently fueled with happy energy, and aware of how to refresh the flow, then you've got leaks.

Energy is a renewable, accessible resource. Evidence of its renewability is that you get tired every night and wake up rested every morning. How are you waking up with energy if you go to sleep without it? Obviously, you rejuvenate while you sleep.

In our waking hours, it’s easy to overlook the places that we leak energy or underestimate how much we are wasting. To be at your best, you need to plug your leaks and tap into your own energetic flow. You'll be surprised by how much more energy you can find simply by plugging a few obvious leaks!

Leaks can mess with the feng shui of your life, and are likely preventing you from feeling how you want to feel or living your best life. Life is about a commitment to a felt state of feeling good.

Places where you could be leaking energy:

>>Work commitments that no longer light you up

>>Relationships that no longer serve you

>>Self-sabotaging habits to soothe when you’re stressed out

>>Too many browser windows open on your computer/too many things on your Desktop

>>Saying YES when you want to say "No"

>>Excess voice mails stored on your phone because you never listen to them

>>Mail in envelopes and in piles because you haven’t dealt with it

>>Laundry that is washed but isn’t folded and put away

>>Email inbox that is overcrowded and full of things from which you need to unsubscribe

>>Car that needs cleaning out

All of this is pretty obvious, right?

Clean up a few things on this list and you’re going to find a lot more clear head space for what matters most. What matters most is feeling good, about life, all the time.

Here are a few cleansing tips for when you’ve been drained by the energy leaks that you yourself created. Yeah…you’re creating all those leaks that are frying you out. You need to own them to get rid of them.
The work of getting rid of energy leaks is freeing, but it’s not easy. It’s effortful!

Once you’re rolling on it, you’ll get so hooked on the happy buzz of being fueled that you’ll become ninja-like about your energy.

Take a few ideas from this list and add them to your self-care routines this week.

>>Shed those relationships and commitments that don't serve you. Release your guilt about it too..you're holding the projects and people back from their best paths.

>>Sleep—minimum of 6 hours and ideally 8. In a darkened, peaceful room with no distractions. I like to refresh my bedroom each morning to cleanse the energy. I open the windows, freshen the bed, spray rosewater in the room and simply let the space breathe. Then at night it's a welcoming energetic cocoon.

>>Showers. Wash the day off at night. My yoga teacher takes showers every night after teaching. Not because she's touched a ton of bodies, though that's part of it...it's to shed all that extra energy she's absorbing. Ever notice how you have your best thoughts in the shower? Yeah, that. It's because you're cleansing your energy..getting out of your head and into your flow.

>>Clean your teeth and your tongue. My new dentist gave me a tongue cleaner and I am now obsessed with it.

>>Epsom salt bath, essential oils, other self-care routines that serve you.

>>Sage—burn a stick just long enough to wrap yourself up in the sage-y smoke, then rinse off the end to put it out. I store mine in my sterling silver baby cup.  Making sage special!

>>Have a healthy detox chat with a friend. Make sure this talk is with someone who is clarity focused…no bitch sessions.

>>Clean your house. Especially the kitchen. Let's face it..you could clean the kitchen then clean it again, there's always more to do in that room. Give it a good 45 minutes/hr.

>>Take stuff to charity! Get rid of extras. Your trash is someone's treasure.

>>Open all that mail and deal with it. Recycle the envelopes/extras.

>>Ten handstands! I’m in a handstand challenge right now..it’s amazing how cleansing a batch of handstands can be.

>>Get a massage. Bodywork is a great way to release energy.

>>Acupuncture

>>Acupressure or tapping

>>Get outside

>>Meditate!

>>Have some Lemon ginger water

>>Clean out your inbox

>>Clean up your desktop

>>Take out the trash and recycling.

>>Wash your car.

>>Consolidate your lists.

>>Schedule some pleasure time. You deserve it. You deserve to have access to ALL of your happy energy. Plug some leaks.
