Last night at yoga practice I met a woman visiting from Seattle. We talked about the cloud cover that can weigh on spirits up there, and that’s just what happens to me with emotions. I can’t see or feel the sunshine, even though I know it’s there. BKS Iyengar said that a central purpose of yoga practice is to ‘release the self from its prison-house so it can move about the body’. Trapped emotions feel like my ‘real’ self until I get out of them, then I remember what the real self is. Light, bright, open. Imaginative. Asana is one way to get there. to get THERE. Steady practice.
Another way is meditation, and I don’t mean a toe in the water, 5 minutes a day. That’s going to give you a skipping stone moment of it, not a reconnection with the wellspring. Sleuthing out your hidden disconnection so it can be dissolved and integrated IS essential to your path on Earth. Everything else is noise. Do the work. Find your bliss. Daily wonders are yours for the taking. Do not shirk on this. Bliss is your birthright. The work is an essential part of the process of self-evolution.
