Isn't this a great picture? It's from my birthday dinner last weekend. Let me tell you, I am pretty glad that Facebook wasn't around during some of our 'finer' years. I scrambled these kids up. It wasn’t perfect, it was messy as hell. But we all kept at it..we kept trying new paths; we stuck it out.
Extraordinary comes from making brave choices whether you want to or not. And living in those decisions. Relationships give you regular opportunities to be extraordinary.
I was talking to a teacher yesterday about the work to grow. Students often don't want to do it. Life makes it relatively easy to not do it, the way it serves up distractions. The way everyone else’s life looks better, faster, sexier. Why bother? You can't get THERE; might as well settle for here.
The way the day goes by, the week, the year. And you’re doing enough. It’s good enough. But good enough is not what Nature does for us when She brings back each new season. I’m in glorious summer right now and it’s so five senses amazing I could cry from sunrise to sunset while I’m eating berries, swimming, hiking, watching the moon set. Nature goes ALL OUT with every season, every year. Nature doesn’t do just enough. Nature goes BIG.
Usain Bolt says that training starts on the last set. "You’re tired, you’re dying. That’s when you improve. You gotta overcome, it’s like you’re moving past a barrier. A lot of people want to stop because they’re dead tired. You gotta do that extra one.”
All around you, you can see it. The way to grow is to set goals, —big goals. And to know that you are above your limitations--you are so far beyond them--and you can feel the goal, and you push yourself past your limits.
DO THE WORK consistently. Be your own best friend, and do not listen to negative you. Smash those goals, and get bigger, stronger, happier, more peaceful. Nail your backbends, win your races, expand, soar, love and feel loved. You are love.
